Born: Beautiful Baby Beluga

Hundreds of people watched as Vancouver Aquarium said "hello" to their newest resident Tuesday, when 12 year old Beluga whale "Qila" gave birth to a 50kg, 1.5 metre long calf. Qila had 15 months of gestation and three hours of hard labour before the small grey version of herself appeared tail first into the tank.

Momma and baby did not bond right away, but once Aurora, Qilas mom was brought in, Qila seemed to get the idea.

The youngster seems strong and healthy and will be introduced to the rest of her family in the coming months. Aquarium officials are pretty sure the tiny whale is female and plan on naming her at some point in the future.
