Bedbugs Are Back--Are There Bedbugs in Your Bed?

Bedbugs are making a comeback worldwide. In country after country, the busy bugs are reappearing and making a nuisance of themselves.

In Canada, bedbugs have shown up in the West End in Vancouver, in the U.S. bedbugs have been reported in state after state. Bedbugs have also made a dramatic comeback in the Big Apple

Bedbugs have been spotted in hotels, apartment buildings and in homes, they've been seen hiding in cracks and crevices and crannies. Bedbugs will hitch a ride on most objects.

Why the Reemergence of Bedbug's?

In the 1950s efforts were made to eradicate bedbugs. Pesticides such as DDT were used to control and reduce bedbug populations. In recent years, a number of pesticides have been banned, which may be a factor in the return of bedbugs. As well, international travel has contributed to the bedbug problem.

While the fact that bedbugs feed on blood reminds some people of vampires and might be hard to deal with from a psychological standpoint, bedbugs are relatively harmless. They aren't venomous and they don't spread disease; however, most people aren't comfortable sharing their homes or beds with the small creatures.

Bedbugs may be considered problematic but there are exceptions to the rule. Dr. Harold Harlan PhD actually keeps the bugs and studies bedbug behavior. Bedbug children's stories strike a chord with youngsters who have a natural fascination with small creatures.

Bedbugs are making a come-back due to bans on pesticides and possibly because of climate change. International travel has also contributed to the problem.

Bed Bugs

Interesting, but at the same time disgusting and repulsive. I wonder if global warming is altering the migratory patterns of bed bugs.
