October 17th is the Annual Apple Harvest Festival at Gross Orchards 6817 Wheats Valley Road, Bedford, VA. Admission is free. They will have food. crafts, buggy rides, apple butter, door prizes, and love bluegrass music. www.grossorchars.com

A day at Smith Mountain Lake enables you to take a cruise on the "Virginia Dare" and go swimming, boating and/or fishing at Smith Mountain Lake State Park - called one of the best state parks in Virginia! Washington National Monument which includes the farmstead where Washington was born as a slave.
