Is beer really good for me?
posted December 7, 2008 - 9:10amSo is beer really good for me and does it benefit my heart. As I had a couple of Kingfishers last night with a fantastic Indian meal, I have decided this morning to go on a quest to find out if its true what studies have been done.
1. A team of researches at the Emory University concluded that amongst and older study group he found that those who drank a minimum of 1.5 units per day had a 20 to 50 percent less change of heart failure. Very interesting but its quite a range 20 to 50!
2. A Czech study involved measuring the amounts of B vitamins in men and woman who drank alcohol. The found that the drinkers had higher levels of vitamin B and this is probably due to the brewers yeast. Though I have read that excessive alcohol actually depletes the levels of vitamins in the blood, so I suspect that moderation is the answer here.
3. In 2002 The Early Show (CBS) announced that Beer was better for you than wine… A Dr Normal Kaplan stated that in a study of 70,000 it showed that nurses had lower hypertension than wine or whisky drinkers. He argued that red wine drinkers live healthier lives generally; and this somewhat distorts the results. Overall he said that drinkers of 2 drinks per day lived longer and were generally healthier. Reduced risk of heart disease, stroke and dementia.
So they you have it. Its so rare that something so good IS actually good for you - might as well enjoy it!
