Beginners Guide to Getting a Six Pack

Ever wanted six pack abs but don't start because you're too far from having one? This is the right place then; the Beginner's Guide to Getting a Six Pack.

So what has been keeping you from starting? Fear of failure? Busy lifestyle? Sedentary lifestyle? Maybe all three, but we're going to solve those common road blocks right now.

First off, every single person is afraid to fail whether they admit it or not. So just admit you're afraid, move on, and tell yourself constantly that you will have a sixpack! Next, you cannot be too busy. Fifteen minutes 3 times a week can be done, no matter what. I work two full time jobs and write on Xomba and I find time, so no excuses! Lastly, I'll actually tell you how a sedentary TV watching lifestyle will make it easier to get a six pack, so let's get started.

If you can't do a sit-up, that's fine (this is a guide for beginners) start with crunches. Lay on the floor with your knees at a 90 degree angle, cross your arms on your chest and raise just your head and shoulders off the floor while contracting your abdomen. Do sets of 5 at least 3 times a day for 3 days, then rest 2 days. Repeat that pattern for 3 weeks, then move on to sit-ups.

This is where that TV watching will help you: when a commercial break starts do two crunches, then wait for the next commercial break. Two at a time during the breaks for as long as you can or as long as you watch TV in place of the above sets (still 3 days on 2 off, and do at least 20 total). Then have fun telling everyone you're getting in shape watching TV!

You should be feeling more confident, starting to feel your six pack strengthening and becoming more dense. After two weeks following that pattern with sit-ups, try to do 5 sets of five repetitions instead of 3 for 3 weeks. At the end of that time, you should be very proud of your progress, and almost as important you should be able to at least faintly see the beginning of your six pack!
