Behind The Cast Iron Doors
posted February 27, 2009 - 3:04pmThere he was. Kevin was walking out of the chapel after the funeral service. He desperately wished that he knew what happened to his family. Then he looked across the street and saw this big house-like place with huge rusted iron doors. As he was walking closer to the big doors he noticed that it started to rain. He decided that he should find somewhere dry to stay for a while incase it rained harder, so he crossed the street. As Kevin walked closer to the cast-iron doors, the sky began to turn a deep-sinful gray. Kevin then heard a loud, booming noise behind him. Then it began to rain.
This rain was so hard, that it sounded like pebbles being thrown. Kevin quickly hurried into the cast-iron doors to escape the rain. As Kevin walked into these cast-iron doors he noticed that the place looked like a crypt. He always hated being in place like this. He never liked the dark-looming sensation of being in a crypt. As Kevin walked towards the wall to find a light switch of some kind, something jumped out of the shadows and attacked him! Kevin then let out a blood-curdling scream!
When he tried to run away from his attacker, he was turned around and came face to face with a Vampire. This vampire was tall, at least 6 feet tall. He was dressed in a long black trench coat, and he had beady red eyes. His fangs were long and white, with little blood stains on them. Kevin couldn’t believe what he saw. His face turned white as a ghost as he stared at his vampire. He must have been in shock because he couldn’t seem to speak at all.
The vampire looked at Kevin as if he didn’t know what he was. Then he finally spoke, he said “My name is Jeff. I didn’t mean to scare you. I will not hurt you.” Kevin was still in shock because all he could do was star straight at Jeff the vampire. Jeff then asked “What is your name? And why are you here?” After a few suspense full-filling moments, Kevin finally said “My name is Kevin. I’ve come here to escape the rain and to figure out my past and who my family was.” The vampire’s face was stone cold and full of no emotions. He then said, “Now tell me Kevin, what happened to your family?”
Kevin was unsure if he should tell this stranger about his family, but decided that noting bad could happen from telling him his story. So he started telling Jeff his long, sad story. “My family died in a weird explosion. My parents, my 9-year old little sister and I were all in this weird freak accident. But for some reason I’m alive and didn’t have a single scratch on me. We were just sitting around the table playing cards, like everyday. Then all of a sudden out of nowhere, this BIG explosion came right behind us. Our living room just blew up. And the worst part of all was that my parents died immediately because the paramedics couldn’t get them to a hospitable fast enough. And my little sister Annie died because she was caught under a piece of wood. The firefighters couldn’t get to her fast enough and she burned up. But the weirdest thing of all was that I didn’t have a single scratch or burn on me; and I was the closest to the explosion when it happened. After the firefighters cleaned up a little I found a note saying that after the funeral to come here and that this mess would be figured out. Now here I am. So you think that you could figure out what happened?”
The only thing that was on Jeff’s face then was a little hint of compassion, the rest was stone cold. Jeff just stared at Kevin as if he was unsure of what to say. To Kevin’s story Jeff finally said, “I’m sorry for your loss. It must be hard for you to talk about them now that they’re gone. Come with me Kevin. I want to show you something.” Kevin followed Jeff deep into the crypt-looking place. Jeff walked to the back of a room and opened a door. Inside this small damp room was a black casket. “This is where I sleep.” Jeff said to Kevin. “In that thing?” Kevin said as he pointed towards the casket. “I’ll show you what it looks like when I’m in there. Now go walk into the shadows in that corner.” When Kevin was in the shadows Jeff walked to the casket and got inside. He closed the lid and pretended to sleep.
Kevin noticed something tall, wearing a red shirt and black cargo pants walking towards Jeff’s casket. As this person walked closer to Jeff’s casket, it then was crouching down in front of the casket into the light. Kevin then realized that it was a girl and that she had medium-length black hair. Kevin was just about to say something about this mysterious girl, but all of a sudden the casket opens! As Jeff was opening his eyes this girl jumped up and said, “BOO!” Jeff was obviously taken aback, because he then glared directly at Kevin and said, “Who is she?!?!?” Kevin could only shake his head no, because he was too afraid to speak.
The girl looked at Jeff and said, “My name is Shauna. You’re kind of cute. I like you. What’s your name?” Jeff then had a big smile on his face and said, “My name is Jeff. I am a vampire. Since you are an intruder in my home, now I must take your blood!” “NO!!!!!” was all that Shauna could say before Jeff bit into her neck and drank her blood. She then fell limp to the floor, like a doll.
Kevin came out of the shadows then and all he could do was say “Why did you do that? Why did she have to die?” Jeff looked at him and said, “Since she was an intruder in my home I had to drain her of her blood. But she also said that she liked me so I only took most of her blood. Plus she also didn’t say why she was here in the first place.” “Wait. Most of her blood?” Kevin asked after a moment of silence. “Yes most of her blood. She said that she liked me, and that never happens to me. But don’t worry Kevin, in about two minutes she will wake up and get off the floor and become my vampire mistress.”
After staring at the ground for a few minutes, Shauna then got up off the ground and came back to life. She looked at Kevin and smiled then he saw that she had long white fangs, like Jeff’s. Jeff said to Kevin, “She is half zombie half vampire. I shall call her....a ZOMPIRE!” Shauna then walked over to Jeff and stood beside him. Kevin then had a smile on his face, because he thought that Zompire was a funny word and he walked over and stood in front of Jeff and Shauna.
Shauna then looked at Kevin and said, “There is someone that I want you guys to meet. Is that okay with you Jeff?” “It’s alright with me, as long as you know this person.” Jeff said to Shauna. Shauna then let out a low whistle and this flying thing came out from the dark shadows. This flying thing looked like a fairy. It was wearing blue jeans, a green shirt, blue and gray sneakers, and a gray Old Navy sweatshirt. Then it says to everyone, “My name is Joey. I’m Shauna’s cousin, the one and only Glitter Fairy.”
Kevin just stared at Joey in amazement. Jeff walks over to Joey and says, “So you are the one who has been putting glitter all over my clothes.” Joey replies with a big smile “Yes that was me. It was so much fun doing that too.” Jeff stared at Joey in anger but then he realized that he couldn’t stay mad at him if he wanted Shauna to stay with him. So he figured that he should probably introduce him to Kevin, “Joey, I want you to meet Kevin.”
Kevin says the first thing that pops in to his head “Can you really fly?” Joey smiles and floats up to the air and says “Yes I can fly. And my magical Japanish fairy wand spreads glitter everywhere.” “Japanish? I thought it was Japanese.” Kevin said to Joey. “It is called Japanese, but Japanish sounds so much better to me. Don’t you think?” Joey said to Kevin and Shauna “Yeah I do. It’s an awesome word.” replied Shauna.
Jeff looked seriously at Kevin and said, “Do you still want to know what happened to your family? And how come there’s not a single scratch on you?” “Yes I would really like to know what happened.” Kevin said with a big sigh. Jeff finally said, “Okay but this might come as a big shock to you. The day of the explosion you somehow became a vampire. Just like ME!” Kevin’s face turned white as a ghost. “And we have the same bloodline so technically we are brothers.”
Then a long sigh came from Jeff after he said that. “NO. No that can’t be! I don’t want to believe you!” Kevin said to Jeff. “If you don’t believe me, then touch your teeth. Do you feel fangs coming down?” All Kevin could do was nod at what Jeff was saying to him. Shauna and Joey both said “That’s awesome!” It was like the practiced saying that or something because they both said it at exactly the same time. Joey came behind Kevin then and surrounded him with a cloud of glitter. When Kevin walked out of the glitter cloud he was dressed in a long black trench coat just like Jeff’s. “Why is this happening to me?” Kevin asked. “Because you’re the chosen one. This is your true destiny” Jeff then said with a passion. “Now I finally know the real reason why I wasn’t hurt at all….but did my family really have to die?” Kevin said. “They weren’t supposed to die at all. They were just supposed to get little cuts and bruises here and there; but that’s it, Kevin. I don’t know how and I don’t know why but someone must have made them die. What did your parents do for a living?” replied Jeff.
“My mom was a 10th grade teacher and my dad was a geologist” Kevin said to Jeff. “Maybe someone came after your family because they didn’t want your dad to change the environment or something.” Shauna said. Kevin then looks at all three of them and said, “Why wouldn’t they want the environment to change?” Joey then flew up to Kevin and said “They probably thought that your day was changing the environment in a bad way.” “Don’t worry about a thing, Kevin. We’ll figure out this mess somehow.” Shauna said. “Yeah, trust me Kevin. This will all be figured out soon.” Joey said with pride.
“How could my dad change the environment in a bad way?” Kevin asked. “They probably thought that he was polluting the air or throwing trash in the ocean.” Jeff said. “But my dad was cleaning the air and he was cleaning out all of the trash in the ocean. Not the other way around. I need to figure out this mystery soon.” Kevin said. He then looked at his watch and noticed that it said 11:30pm. He then asked Jeff “Is there anywhere that I can sleep tonight?” “Yes, let me show all of you to the guest rooms. Kevin, you’ll share a room with Joey. And Shauna you’ll have your own room. Now follow me.” The three of them followed Jeff into the dimly lit hall.
“Okay, now the second door here is the bathroom. The third door down is your room Shauna. And the fifth door is your guys’ room. There are two beds and two windows in each room. If you need me I’m in the first room. Remember; don’t forget to knock before you come in to my room.” Jeff said to them. “You guys have a good night’s sleep now and I can’t be in the sunlight so don’t open the Bathroom blinds or my room’s blinds. Nighty, night. ”Kevin and Joey started to walk towards their room but suddenly stopped when they heard Shauna ask, “Are there any light switches in the rooms?” “Yes, to the right of the door knob. Good-night.” Jeff said to Shauna. “Good-night Jeff.” Shauna said with a heavy sigh.
The next morning Kevin woke up drenched in sweat. Joey looked over from where he was sitting on his bed and said “Are you alright?” “I’m fine. I was just having a dream about the explosion that killed my family. It was absolutely horrible.” “Do you want to talk about it or should we go to Jeff’s room to figure out who killed your family?” Joey said. “Let’s just go to Jeff’s room, so we can figure this out.” Kevin said to Joey as he walked towards the door.” “Okay, I’m right behind you, but let’s get Shauna before we go to Jeff’s room.”
They walked silently down the hall to Shauna’s room. Right when they were about to knock on the door, out comes Shauna. “Hey I was just coming to get you guys. Well since you’re here let’s go wake up Jeff.” Shauna said to Kevin and Joey. They walked to the end of the hall and knocked of Jeff’s door. “Come in.” was the only reply before the door opened. “Jeff where are you? It’s so dark; can you turn on a light or something?” Shauna said as she felt around the wall for a light switch. One dimly lit light come on at the back of Jeff’s room by his coffin. “I’m back here, Shauna. By my coffin.” Jeff said.
All three of them walked over to where Jeff was sitting. “I brought out a table and some chairs so we can figure this out.” Jeff said “Okay let’s get started. The sooner we start the sooner I can leave.” Kevin said “Why would you want to leave?” asked Joey. Kevin sighed and said “I want to leave because I don’t like this place. It looks like a crypt and I hate being in places like this. They freak me out.” “Do you really hate this place Kevin or just the people in it?” Shauna asked with a concerned expression. When Kevin didn’t answer right away Jeff gave him a hard look and said “Answer the question Kevin.”
“I really hate this place and the thought of being a vampire. I don’t like blood and I diffidently don’t want to take anyone’s blood from them.” Kevin said “And why am I the chosen one? Why can’t it be someone else?” “You’re the chosen one because you’re the only one who possesses the blue star ring. Only the chosen one has that ring. They get it on their first birthday. No one else can be the chosen one because they don’t have the ring and once the ring is on it can’t be taken off. When your time as the chosen one is over the ring will come off and someone else will then become the chosen one.” Jeff said catching his breath.
After a minute of thinking Kevin said, “How long do I have to wait before the ring comes off?” “You have to wait until you’re 36 years old.” Replied Jeff “WHAT?!? I have to wait 20 years?!?” he said “Yes you have to wait 20 years. That’s how it’s always been and that’s how it always will be.” Jeff said “Kevin, it’s not that bad being a vampire. If you don’t want to take the blood of humans you can take the blood of animals like rats, snakes, and birds.” “Okay I guess I can do that.” Kevin said. Right when he was about to say something else, the lights went out! “HEY! What happened to the lights? Jeff something’s wrong with the light switch, it won’t turn on.” Shauna said. Then out of nowhere Shauna let out a high pitched scream! “Shauna are you ok?” Jeff asked. The lights came back on and everyone but Joey was staring at Shauna. Her hand was all bloody, “Shauna what happened?” asked Kevin. Joey then walked over to a corner, away from Shauna.
Jeff walked over to Shauna and gasped in shock. “Oh my gosh. Guys come over here.” “What, what is it?” Kevin asked. Jeff looked over to where Joey was standing and he asked him, “Joey why are you standing in that corner?” “Umm….uh…I’m talking to Bob. He’s my friend see?” Joey then moved away from the corner. “Where? I don’t see anything. Where is he?” asked Kevin. “He’s standing right next to me. What do you mean you can see him? He’s been making chairs so that’s why he’s in a janitor’s outfit. Don’t you see him?” Joey asked Kevin and Jeff.
“No I don’t Joey. You’re acting very strangely. Now come over here so you can look at what just happened to Shauna” Jeff said. “Okay” Joey said as he was walking closer to her. “Look at this.” Jeff replied as he walked behind Shauna and pulled out a long bloody knife. “I’m keeping this.” Jeff says “I’m calling this dagger Walter.” So he put “Walter” into his coat pocket.
“Um Jeff do you think that I could be alone with Shauna’s body for a few minutes?” Joey asked “Sure, just come out of my room when you’re done. Come on Kevin, let’s leave him alone.” He said. After Jeff and Kevin walked into the hall, Joey went back to the corner where Bob was standing. “Bob why did you do that? You know that you’re not supposed to take over my body and kill people. Didn’t you learn that last time?” Joey said with a sigh “Well whatever we do we can’t let Kevin and Jeff know that you killed his family. I can’t believe that you made me kill my own cousin. I’ll deal with you later; right now I’m going to see how Jeff is.”
Joey walked to Jeff’s door. When he opened it Jeff had a really sad look on his face and Joey asked him, “Jeff are you okay? You don’t look so good.” “Yeah I’m alright just sad because she died and I didn’t really know her.” Jeff said to Kevin and Joey. “I’m going to try and got to bed. It’s been a long day.” Joey said. “But it’s only three pm.” Kevin said. “I know, but I’m really sad because Shauna isn’t here anymore.” He said. Jeff looked over at Joey and said “I know how you feel. If you guys want one of you can stay in Shauna’s room.” “Yeah that’s where I’ll be.” Joey said
Joey walked to Shaun’s room and went inside. Kevin then looked at Jeff and said, “He’s really taking this hard. I wonder if there’s someone else is here with us. That’s how she could of died.” “Maybe there is someone else in here. I won’t trouble you with looking, so you can—“Jeff said “No I’m going to help you look for another person. I know that you really loved Shauna but you can’t do this alone. You need some help. Think of it this way; I’m here and Joey’s too sad to do anything right now. Weather you like it or not I’m helping you.” Kevin said “Well I guess you’re right. Let’s get started.”
After an hour of looking, Kevin and Jeff and couldn’t find anyone else around. “Is there any place that we haven’t checked?” Kevin asked “Nope. We’ve checked everywhere.” Jeff said “Are you sure?” “Yes. Wait, there’s a secret room over here behind this painting.” He said. They both walked into the room and while Jeff was looking for the light switch, he heard something that sounded like a knife being thrown. Jeff finally found the light switch and looked around the secret room, “Kevin where are you?” Jeff was walking around the room when he noticed a blanket on the ground with something underneath it.
He picks up the blanket and stares in shock. Kevin is lying face-first on the floor with a knife in his back! “Oh my gosh. How could this happen?!? First Shauna and now Kevin. Who’s doing this?” He quickly walked back to Shauna’s room to tell Joey about Kevin, but he wasn’t in there. He goes to Kevin’s room, but Joey’s not there. So he goes by his door to hear talking coming from the other side. Quietly he puts his ear to the door and listens.
“Bob I’m serious when I say that you have to stop doing this. It’s bad. I can’t let you do this anymore.” Joey said “What? Someone’s coming? Come on let’s go back to Shauna’s room.” Jeff did the fist thing that he could think of: he ran down the hall and went in Kevin’s room. After a few minutes of waiting, he walked out the door. He walked to Shauna’s and knocked at the door. When he got no answer he said “Joey are you in there? I’m coming inside.” When he turned the knob and opened the door he was immediately blinded by sunlight. To him it felt like he was dieing because his energy was evaporating. “Joey! What are you doing shut the blinds!” Jeff said weakly
“Why would I want to do that?” a mysterious voice said “Who’s there?” Jeff said “It’s me. Bob. Don’t you remember Joey telling you guys about me?” “Why are you trying to kill me?” “I’m just finishing the job.” Bob said “What job? Oh my gosh. So you’re the one who killed Shauna and Kevin.” Jeff said. “Don’t forget Kevin’s family. I killed them too.” “Bob come into the light so I can see my killer.” Jeff said. Bob walked into the sunlight and all Jeff sees is a midget in a janitor’s outfit with orange skin and green hair. Jeff started bursting with laughter as he looked at Bob. “So you’re BOB. And you really killed all of them? How can that be? You’re short and look just like an oomph loompa. From that Disney movie.“ Said Jeff
“Thank you Jeff. And just for that comment you get to die now.” Bob said as he threw a knife in Jeff’s chest. Jeff then collapsed to the floor and burned. Joey then comes out of the shadows and immediately looks at what’s left of Jeff’s body. “What did you do to him?” Joey asked Bob “I’m just finishing the job.” He said “What do you mean finishing the job?” asked Joey “I mean this, “ Bob said as he pulled out a gun “Killing everyone who knew Kevin or anyone who was a vampire.” “But why kill me? I thought you were my friend, Bob.” “Yeah I was your friend until Kevin came here. If he never came here then none of this would be happening.”
“So why are you doing this? What did they ever do to you? He asked. “ They laughed at me. All of them. They all made fun of me. It’s not my fault that my skin was burned so badly from the explosion that it turned orange. If Kevin’s little sister Annie hadn’t saw me through the window and laughed at me, I wouldn’t of killed them in the explosion.” Bob said “What happened to you? You’re not the Bob I remember.” “You’re right, I’m not. Now are you satisfied?” “No just disappointed.” Joey said. “Oh well. Enough chit-chat. It’s time for you to die. Goodbye Joey. It was nice knowing you.” Joey was about to say something else, but he got shot right in his heart.
“Well the job is done. Now I just have to get out of here.” Bob said aloud as he walks toward the Cast-Iron doors. Then both of the doors open and a girl walks inside. She looks up and sees Bob “Wh-wh-who are you?” she says. Bob just looks at her as if he knows her or something. “Um my name is Bob. What are you doing here? And what’s your name?” “M-m-my name’s Janet and I live here. I just got back from vacation.” She said. Bob just kept staring straight at her. “Is-is there something that you want to tell me?” “Yes, this might seem weird but will you marry me?” Bob asks with a smirk on his face.
…..The End
P.S. Bob and Janet got married and had a kid named Shirley
