Being overweight may be good for you

A recent government study suggests being 25 to 30 pounds overweight doesn't appear to increase a person's risk of getting cancer or heart disease.

Dr. Katherine Flegal of the Centers for Disease Control said obesity was linked to about 11 percent of deaths from breast, kidney, colon or pancreatic cancer, and about 9 percent of deaths from heart problems.

40% of deaths in the U.S. are due to causes other than cancer or cardiovascular disease and researchers found that being overweight significantly reduced number of deaths from those causes.

I'm skeptical

[WHOOPS... this comment is a response to the original xombyte, not to Celanith's comment] Got a link to this info? I'm pretty skeptical... it goes against most other research. 30 lbs overweight is 20% overweight for the average person. Being overweight is known to be a big cause of heart disease and diabetes, among other things.

That is interesting information

However I am way over 30 lbs of being overweight and need to lose a lot. I am doing this under a doctors care and it is taking time. One thing to be noted is people should not try and be the weight they were when a teenager or before 25. It is proven that both men and women do not get their full growth or mature healthy body weight until around age 23 for women and 25 for men. To try and lose weight to what you may have been at age 16 or 18 is dangerous and unhealthy. Find out from your doctor what a healthy safe weight would be for your age, body build and height. For me It is 135-145 lbs. Not 125 or under. Which means I need to lose 127 lbs still. So far since I started I have lost 28 lbs.
