Bennigans, Steak & Ale, Taverns, Close Nationwide Today
posted July 29, 2008 - 1:13pmThousands of employees found out they lost their jobs today as they reported to work only to find doors locked and a sign stating that the business has succumbed to chapter 7 bankruptcy.
Bennigans, Steak & Ale, and Taverns restaurants nationwide have closed their doors, unable to continue operating at a loss with the state of the economy and the rising prices of gas and food. Unlike chapter 11 bankruptcy where a business can reorganize itself and still maintain ownership of its properties, chapter 7 bankruptcy means liquidation of all assets. With operating costs continuing to rise and business continuing to fall, these notable establishments could no longer keep their doors open.
So we must bid adieu to the stuffed potato skin appetizers and the steak and salad combos as three of Americas most widely known restaurants, and their employees become a victim of the declining economy. This news seems to echo my rant on the economy from yesterday where no one seems to be able to account for who is responsible for rising oil prices that effect everything else like a row of falling dominos.
If anyone still thinks we are not in a recession, ask an employee, or previous owner of Bennigans, Steak & Ale, and Taverns.
