Conner's Corner - Beowulf

You know what pisses me off?

Crappy films exploiting classic literature.

I just got home from a 3D screening of the new Robert Zemeckis film, Beowulf.

It was kinda cool.

If you have no idea of the actual Beowulf story, or you think 10-yr old CGI still looks cool, or if you're eight years old, or if you think Shrek with blood would be a good combination.

Other than that, stay away.

The screenplay was co-authored by Neil Gaiman, a well-respected horror/science-fiction/fantasy author.

He no longer has my respect.

I think he woke up one day and said, "I think I'm going to go butcher the oldest piece of English literature, one of the greatest heroic epics of Anglo-Saxon culture and of the world."

In this crappy movie version, whose CGI effects look about three years behind Final Fantasy: Spirits Within (released years ago), almost nothing remains true to the original story.

The only way I can recommend seeing this movie is if you have a free ticket and nothing else you can possibly find to occupy two hours.

Robert Zemeckis....you've disappointed me. You were at the helm of the "Back to the Future" trilogy, "Cast Away," "Forrest Gump," and "Who Framed Roger Rabbit?".

Now look at you...

This is called a fall from grace, and I hope you're ashamed of yourself.

Ray Winstone, Anthony Hopkins, Brendan Gleeson, Crispin Glover, Angelina Jolie, John Malkovich, and Robin Wright Penn....the same goes for all of you.

Shame, shame, shame.

I'm going to watch something good now.

Perhaps "Seven Samurai..."
