I have used many external hard drives that come complete, and added hard drives to empty case. The ease of adding a hard drive to the case is simple. I works with a USB or eSATA to your computer. - if you just need USB the drive enclosure is less, and if you also need Fire wire of 1394 they have that model also. Check out tigerdirect.com of NewEgg.com and do your comparison shopping.

You just open the case connect the hard drive close the case and plug it in.

The Vantec NexStar works with the newest 3.5" hard drives (SATA).
