Best Football Tailgating Recipes - Sausage and Cheese Subs
posted October 22, 2007 - 4:32amOK; here's the next best tailgating recipe for you NFL Football fans. It works at college football games too!
This recipe makes about 14 or 15 subs and is one of my favorites. However; if you're more health inclined stay away from this one.
This is a favorite of New England Patriot fans but works well for Southern tailgaters also.
Ingredients:
1 head of garlic
6 oz. of Italian olive oil
1 small can of tomato sauce
salt and pepper
3 pounds of Italian sausage
6 Cubanelle peppers or Green Bell Peppers
2 bags of diced onions
4 baking potatoes
1 bag of shredded Mozzarella cheese
A good Italian bread (preferably from the bakery).
You'll also need:
A large foil roasting pan.
A bowl
Aluminum foil wrap
A grill
1) Cut sausage into 2-3" chunks.
2) Slice peppers into thin strips
3) Peel the garlic and dice into really small pieces.
4) Cut the potatoes in half lengthwise, then slice into small pieces (about 1/8")
5) Add the following ingedredients in the foil roasting pan and mix well: olive oil, sausage, peppers, onions, garlic, tomato sauce, some salt & pepper.
6) Add a little olive oil and the potatoe slices together in the bowl.
7) Pour the contents of the bowl into the roasting pan and leave on top.
8) Cover the pan with foil and cook at about 350 degrees for about 1 1/2 hours.
9) remove the foil and cook for another 10 to 15 minutes.
10) Once the mixture is cooked, add the Mozarrela cheese inside the Italian bread. Then add the peppers, onions, and potatoes. Finally add the sausage.
You might also need a baseball bat to keep the other tailgaters at their distance.
