Best methods to potty training a 2 year old
I am currently in the process of potty training my 2 year old daughter, Aubry. It is a long and trying process, but so much worth it.
Aubry absolutely refused to use the potty. She thought she might fall in. I had gotten her a little Dora the Explorer potty seat to go on the toilet, but it wasn't doing the trick. So, then i came across this great potty seat at Walmart (Fisher-Price Laugh & Learn Potty). It only costs about $30. Whenever Aubry saw this she was amazed. Who knew using the potty could be so much fun?!
Along with this great potty, I also arranged some books and things by her potty, so that she could get comfortable. I think part of the reason it's so hard to train kids is that using a diaper is so much more convenient and comfy. On the potty, they have to wait, and we all know that toddlers aren't great at that.
The next step (which is the most rewarding), is to buy some big kid undies. I was so proud when I saw Aubry wearing these for the first time. We went out and got some Curious George panties. I told her, "You have to use the potty now. We don't want to pee or poopy on George, do we?". She agreed that George shouldn't be pottied on. The undies give the toddler a reason to be proud also. She feels like she has really achieved something (which she has). They also help to make her feel it more when she goes on herself. That will make her not want to anymore. Also, you may want to continue to use pull-ups at night, at least until she is able to hold it all night.
Whenever I would go to the bathroom, I would bring Aubry in there with me. I would say, "See Aubry, Mommy is a big girl. Big girls use the potty.". After I was done, she would say " My turn! My turn!". It actually got her excited .
Another huge step is your approach. You can't get mad or punish the child when they have an accident. Using the potty should be a positive experience for them. You don't want them to associate using the potty with something negative. Instead, reward them when they do make it to the potty. Aubry loves Barney, popsicles, and stickers. She has a little potty chart by the potty, and whenever she uses it, she receives a sticker to add to it. She also gets a popsicle to eat while she watches Barney.
The journey for us is still not over. It takes a little while. Some methods work for some children better than others. I hope that this post has been helpful with yours...

I'm glad that you are having an easy time potty training your two year old.
My oldest daughter's son, who is now 6. Had a hard time with potty training. My daughter bought one of those great Fisher Price Potties. She had to take it back. My grandson was scared to death of the potty. We couldn't understand why.
Then she would pattle his behind when he did an poopie in his pants. That didn't work so she gave up. Believe it or not it was peer pressure that got him to start using the toilet.
