Beware of Wholesale Scams
posted November 18, 2007 - 10:30am Have you ever been the victim of an internet scam? In this article you will read about a ladies clothing store owner and the experience of trying to buy at wholesale pricing over the internet. Don't be a fool, protect yourself against internet scams. What you are about to
hear is from my personal experience and is my personal opinion.
Recently my boyfriend purchased a ladies clothing store. In our many conversations about where to purchase clothing at wholesale, we discussed how we should go about it. He actually thought that he had to get on a plane and pay all kinds of money to visit fashion shows and wholesale conventions all across the country to get the good deals. I knew that this had to be something we could conveniently do from home through the interent. So I started searching on Google.
Of the thousands of websites that I visited, we choose three different websites to order regular size clothing, plus size clothing and accessories from. We choose non name brand clothing as it is more suitable for our clients. On these sites we were able to find very competative pricing for "in-style" clothing.
The worst choice was http://www.apparelshowroom.com. Although they carry some cute regular size tops and jeans, this company was horrible to deal with. After placing the order, I had nothing but problems with this company. First off, they could not accept my mastercard for no apparent good reason. Since we couldn't pay via credit card, we had no choice but to pay for a bank wire. Since we had to send a wire, I asked the company for a shipping estimate so that we could pay the whole thing at once. Not only did they fail to give me the estimate, but they sent me an email telling me that if we didn't send the payment right away, they would have to cancel our order. So we sent the payment. Of course, after the payment was sent, they call me on the shipping costs. After much complaints, we still had to send another wire for the shipping. Although this website had good deals, it was a little more headache than I bargained for.
In a high tech world, there isn't much that you can't do online, but please beware of all the scam artists out there that will try to take your money. A word of advise, always call the company to see how profesional they sound before you send them any money. Get information like an address and phone number and check them out to make sure they are legit. You always have to protect yourself when it comes to the internet. In my experiences, I have come across dozens of scams with wholesalers offering good deals. Your first clue that it's a scam is when they answer the phone "hello" istead of saying the professional company name. Or if the phone line is just always busy.
Don't get me wrong though, I had many good experiences too. A few good websites to check out are http://www.wholesalefashionsquare.com or http://www.goldenages.com. These two were very pleasant to work with and gave high style at affordable prices.
