The world’s biggest spider is the Goliath bird-eating spider usually found in South America rain forest. The spider measures about 30 cm leg span which is as large as the diameter of a plate. This spider is not dangerous to humans but its fangs can penetrate one inch into your skin, and it usually does if you are not careful with it.
The Goliath Bird-Eating Spider is a member of the tarantula family. It usually lives in burrows, mostly in marshes and swamps. The Goliath Bird-Eating Spider does feed on birds but will as well feed on rodents, crickets, worms, lizards or anything smaller than itself.
The life span of the female spider is upward of twenty years but the males live for a shorter period of about five years. The dangerous aspect of this spider is not the venom but its ability to emit fine hairs at its perceived threat. These hairs are irritating barb-like that will affect your nose, eyes, throat and lungs. Due to this, the Goliath Bird-Eating Spider is not suitable as a pet.
