Bill Ayers-Barack Obama: A Relationship That Only Exists in the Minds of Republicans

Much has been made over the alleged connection, mostly in a teacher-student setting, between William "Bill" Ayers and Barack Obama. The fact that Bill Ayers is a former member of 1960's radical group, Weathermen Underground, and Barack Obama is the Democratic presidential candidate and current poll frontrunner has NOTHING to do with this alleged connection coming out in the news now [/sarcasm].

The New York Times ran a story this past Saturday on the tenuous (at best) connection between the two individuals at the heart of the story. (Story here, free registration required.) It shows, beyond anything but Republican partisan beliefs, that the relationship between the two men is distant and that they were anything but close.

In the Republican right-wing conspiracy mindset, this is the same thing as being bosom-buddies. This is the same idea that continues to pop up, even within the Republican campaign. This past weekend, Sarah Palin--the Republican vice presidential candidate--tied the two men together and inferred that Barack Obama is pushing a socialist agenda because of his alleged ties to Ayers. Unfortunately for her claims of veracity, the very same New York Times article she referenced (which I have also referenced above) says that the two were never close.

With John McCain's poll numbers falling and the fact that McCain has pulled out of Michigan, despite outspending Obama and the advantage of an unpopular Democratic governor and convicted Detroit mayor, Republicans are not becoming desperate to pull down Obama by any means at their disposal. Truth, which has already been a casualty in the McCain campaign, just had last rites pronounced on it.

This is the same John McCain who swore earlier this year that he would not invoke Bill Ayers during the campaign. Desperation apparently means anything goes.

This is also the same John McCain who once had a Straight Talk Express, but his straight-talking is rolling off of a forked tongue.

Here's a challenge for Republicans. Try speaking to the American people about what you are going to do better for them instead of lying about what the Democrats are going to do or not do. Let Barack Obama and Joe Biden do the speaking for the Democratic Party, since they are in a position and have demonstrated they can be more truthful and knowledgeable about what they are going to do.

If the evidence existed and is strong, where is it?

The problem with much of the conservative blogosphere's accusations in re: the alleged Ayers-instructs-Obama connection is that we are told the evidence exists and is strong, but there is little or nothing to show that Obama is a closet Weatherman and that the Bill Ayers with whom Barack Obama worked very loosely on neighborhood efforts is anything but a professor and passionate supporter of higher educational standards. @c.f--I Fear Ignorance Like Yours in the Half-Light of Lil`Truth

I admit that I have not yet gone to the links you provided, but I do not plan on using the past to judge Obama. I would rather believe that Obama has 'annulled' his connections with the Underground Weathermen ("annul" here meaning 'cut connection with, past-present & foreseeable future' ... why a broken marriage involves "a divorce" *&* "an annulment" - a destruction *&* a clean-up) Besides, the REASON Obama wanted a CNSF (rather than another military-branch) is that the President/Government controls the military while the people who need it would control the CNSF. ---Uncle MythMan & we Xombies Enlighten You on Money, Love, God etc. Turn Xombie & Help! & LinkBrander will help you 'feast on the Internet Brains'!

Ayers Relationship is Real

Unfortunately for all of us the Bill Ayers relationship is real and the evidence exists and is strong. What is occuring is the inability of people to realize the truth when faced with facts. Senator Obama stated he wanted a "Civilian National Security Force" as strong as the military, as well equiped and as well funded. He stated we cannot depend on the military for our security. This sounds familiar - SS, Gestapo, or KGB. Obama was a guest in Ayers home while Ayers introduced him to Chicago society. How does a society reach the point that individuals no longer think for themselves but simply accept what they are told to belive in the face of enormous evidence to the contrary. If you are brave enough view the following videos and learn the truth. The first one is a former KGB agent explaining how the soviets manipulated the minds of entire nations, and why people cannot see the truth when it is in front of them. The second video is made by a man who saw the truth and broke his shackles. http://www.dailymotion.com/video/k6KUDv1wzraWhwlBt1 http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KxhYampIl7A FEAR IGNORANCE NOT TRUTH

@L.v--Understood, but Sad that You Mearsure in Terms of Darkness

I would rather see accusations and regrets as shades obstructing the light of one's choices and see the candidates' announced plans and -reactions as that light shining through; but I don't care ... ---Uncle MythMan & we Xombies Enlighten You on Money, Love, God etc. Turn Xombie & Help! & LinkBrander will help you 'feast on the Internet Brains'!

Barack Obama is a politician...

...and politicians have associations with people based on how well it will serve their agenda. It sounds to me like Obama had associations with radicals when it served his purpose to do so as a community organizer, but he has let these associations fall by the wayside more and more as he gets closer to the presidency. That's how you do things as a politician, or you don't get anywhere. Choosing a political candidate is about the choice of the lesser of two evils. So...what we have here is, in essence, a choice between Obama, who had a moderate association with man who killed a few for the sake of idealism in his 20's but has since repented of them and devoted his life to helping inner-city kids... ...and McCain, who has had and continues to have a long, close association with a man who has killed millions for the sake of personal gain, has not repented, and continues to murder more every day. I'll take Obama. I don't think the bombings of the Weathermen were in any way justified, but I don't see them as being any worse than the murders committed by a president.

@jd.--Kind of 'Emotates' One, How 'Emotive' the Audience (US) Is

You're right, jdubhub; most Americans don't have enough time to fully-research media's claims and so trust the media to 'say what the news around us means' (including a trust that the media 'means it the way they say it'). Good thing we've got Jim Hubbard to tell us exactly how the news is ~really~ happening! ---Uncle MythMan & we Xombies Enlighten You on Money, Love, God etc. Turn Xombie & Help! & LinkBrander will help you 'feast on the Internet Brains'!

A little bit "emotional", yes

But, a truly emotional voter will be easily swayed by not what is said, but how it is said. Neither Dems or Repubs have any real answers, considering they shut out Paul and Kucinich, but each side is creating a situation whereby the voting public votes their fears. Republicans are saying that Obama is a closet Muslim, a socialist, a Whitey-hating black man, and sometimes worse. Democrats are saying that McCain will too tired and will die during his first term, which puts Palin in the driver's seat and she is a neophytic wolf-killing, anti-women's rights, sociopathic pitbull with lipstick. Each side is playing to the fears of its supporters because neither side really has a distinct "hopeful" message. If the average American voter were not so gosh darn emotional or they put what's best for the country ahead of personal gain and/or party loyalty, we may have seen a greater outcry by the masses when the REAL candidates were blocked from equal time (or ANY time, in Dr. Paul's case) with the insider's choices in McCain and Obama. DO YOU HAVE THE WRITE STUFF?

@jdubhub--'Voting' Isn't 'Deciding,' So It IS a Bit Emotional

Oh, those emotions should indeed be truth/fact-based; but in the end you vote with your gut. You're not voting for the best "candidate," you're voting for the best 'direction.' The candidates do their best to--among other things--successfully embody the right direction. (It's a shame the campaign-teams often try to display how the other team is the 'wrong' direction, but you can only enumerate the good qualities you actually have before you start digging in the dumpsters to 'make quota' lol.) Besides, the-American-public's voting isn't much more than 'feeling like the country should go in one direction rather than the other.' ---Uncle MythMan Enlightens You on Money Here!
