Black Friday and Cyber Monday

November's "Black Friday" – The day after Thanksgiving is commonly known as "Black Friday." This is traditionally the day that retailers went from being indebted to creditors or "in the red" (a reference to accountants' red pens showing debt) to making a profit or being "in the black" (the ink color preference for accountants to denote profit) These days, Black Friday is well-known as the official start of the holiday shopping season and the sales numbers can be an indicator of how the Economy is doing.

"Cyber Monday" – Is the Monday after Thanksgiving and is the day when online traffic and sales have been shown to increase. Masses of shoppers take advantage of huge sales and special deals offered by traditional stores starting on Black Friday and over the Thanksgiving weekend. On Cyber Monday, online sales increase as shoppers who did not find what they were looking for start surfing the web to find that popular game system that was sold out as soon as the stores opened or the latest toy that all the kids want this Christmas.

This year (2008) Black Friday falls on November 28th and Cyber Monday is December 1st.
