Blame It On Tigger - TTFN!

“T-i-double grrr-er” is probably the most cheerful, irresponsible, fun loving cartoon character created. I just love that bouncing tiger, Tigger. After all, Tigger taught me my first instant message acronym! TTFN! (Ta ta for now!) Back in the late 1980’s, when I first got onto the Internet, TTFN was part of my signature line when I made contributions to bulletin boards.

What are bulletin boards you ask? Simple, bulletin boards are what forums and blogs are derived from. In the “old days” (heehee the 80’s are the old days!) blogs and forums did not exist as they do today, they were bulletin boards. This was a place that you could ask questions and post comments on a topic listed under a heading. Oops, got distracted there, let’s get back on topic.

Today’s writing world seems to be undergoing several changes. I have noticed that certain rules of writing no longer apply and you do not need to write in proper sentences, full words or spell correctly to be considered a writer on the Internet.

Writing is no longer about proper punctuation, formatting and style, but about how quickly you can write and post an article for the purpose of earning money. Some people in their haste to get the posting out there use acronyms or modern day shorthand. This is very frustrating to me and my personal opinion is; if you cannot take the time to write out the words, I cannot take the time to decipher your code. I am Jane Public, not 007!

Remember growing up, when you were first being taught manners? Your elders would tell you, “Use your words.” Well, come on people… Write your words!

Here is something to think about, text message language or acronyms in an article context shows the world that you are uneducated, immature and lazy!

Now, as society today is very image oriented, don’t you think you should portray your image as an intelligent, “go-getter” sort of person when trying to earn money as a writer? To do this, you must write coherently and intelligently in whole words and sentences. IMHO, LOL, BRB, LMAO, BFF, etc. all have their time and place for usage and article writing is not it.
