I am disappointed that President Obama did not stay true to finding a puppy from a shelter. Instead, the President and family chose a purebred Portuguese water dog that actually seems to have been hand-picked by his old pal Senator Kennedy.

Even with daughter Malia's allergies, I am positive that a suitable dog could have been found through the extensive network of animal rescue activities and shelters throughout the country. PetFinder.com has listings for hundreds of thousands of pets up for adoption all across the country.

Well, at least the President gave a donation to the shelters that he was supposedly working with to find the first pup.
