Bobby Fischer, Former Chess Champion, Dead At 64

Bobby Fischer, known for his genius chess game and dethroning the Soviet world champion in 1972, has passed away Thursday at age 64.
Fischer was also known for renouncing his American citizenship and for his idiosyncrasies.
Fischer was born in Chicago, raised in NY, he became the American chess champion at age 14, grand master at 15, and world champion in 1972.
Fischer had made his home in Iceland since 2005, largely dropping out of the public eye for the past several years, appearing on occassion to make erratic and anit-semtic comments.
He died in Reykjavik hospital from kidney failure after an extended illness.

A true champion...

Not only was he good at chess, but he was a champion of personal freedom and liberty. When he played in Yugoslavia against the "wishes" of the government in Washington, he sent the message that he owned himself and was not a slave to the State. I applaud him for his courage.
