Boost Mobile Vs. TracFone Straight Talk: Prepaid Phone Review
posted October 16, 2009 - 3:05amThis is a review I wrote which compares Boost Mobile's Unlimited prepaid plans with those of Straight Talk. If you have been paying attention to the prepaid world, you may notice that there are quite a few very attractive and affordable deals out there that may be just what you are looking for.
People who are trying to save money on household expenses inevitably turn to their cell phone bill as an area where they can cut some of the excess spending. As a result, people start to look at prepaid as a means of saving money on their monthly bills. Typically, these kinds of plans cost less, not to mention the more basic phone handsets.
Two plans lead the prepaid wireless pack: Boost Mobile and Straight Talk (by TracFone, the largest pay as you go provider in the U.S.). Both companies have very good Unlimited no-contract plans. They are also Unlimited prepaid plans, which means they provide just what the title suggests--unlimited service.
Here's how Boost Mobile and Straight Talk compare.
The Straight Talk prepaid plan costs $45 for unlimited talk time, texting, and unlimited web browsing per month. There are a variety of phones available on the plan ranging in price from $29 to just under $200. Straight Talk runs on the Verizon network, which is the best network in the country and means coverage is very good nationwide.
Boost Mobile Monthly Unlimited costs $50 for limitless talk time and text messages. On top of that, subscribers to this plan get unlimited wireless web use, nationwide walkie-talkie (that annoying feature you hear sometimes and have to listen to someone else's conversation) and or course, free mobile-to-mobile.
Straight Talk runs on the Verizon network, which is a big plus since Verizon has one of the strongest networks in America as a whole. There is also tons of data usage available. The Straight Talk unlimited plan costs five dollars less than the Boost Mobile plan, which may factor into your buying decision as well.
The Boost Mobile Monthly prepaid plan may not boast a network like that of Straight Talk, but it has a sufficient one. Consider also that you get limitless wireless web for web surfing, so if you use your cell phone to access the Internet quite frequently, this could be a good thing for you. The walkie-talkie option is another free option that comes with this cheap Boost Mobile plan.
One good way to choose your prepaid cell phone plan is to find which wireless provider gets better service in your immediate area. This is really important because nothing is worse than getting crappy service where you live.
Between the TracFone Straight Talk plan and the Boost Mobile, it really is difficult to choose a winner. They are very similar in price and in what they offer, although both plans have different strengths as noted earlier. Other ways to reach a decision on which plan to choose would be to check out phone selection and also figure out which elements of each phone plan better suit your particular needs.
A the end of the day, Straight Talk is just a little bit better. It is cheaper. It is on Verizon's network, which is far stronger than Boost Mobile's. It provides unlimited data, calling, and texting, like Boost, but edges it out by being a stronger plan at each of the points. Visit www.straighttalk.com
