I read today that the cast of The Brady Bunch will reunite on an episode of Oprah this Fall. This might be great for fans of the show but for me, it brought up unresolved issues. Serious unresolved issues. Here's the problem.

I was led to believe, at a very tender age mind you, that if I wrote a letter to Davy Jones from The Monkees and asked him to sing at my prom, he would show up at my doorstep right before the big dance. He would be carrying the record that his manager promised me and he would also ask me to be his prom date. Swoon!

I knew the odds were perhaps against me. I wasn't the president of the Davy Jones fan club although I coveted that position. I also knew he wouldn't be recording a song in a studio near my house. In fact, the one thing I had going for me at the time was that I, too, lived in California - just like Marcia Brady. To me, that meant I had a shot.

But all these years later, I'm sorry to report that Davy Jones never answered my fan letter. I never got to see him recording that wonderful song Girl, Look What You've Done to Me even though I'm sure he sang it just for me. He didn't come to my door step on prom night. He didn't give me a record. Davy Jones stood me up and stomped on my heart.

However, if he were to try to make amends with me now, I might just invite him to tea. I may be coerced in to sharing some cookies, too, IF he brought me a record. And it better darn well be autographed.
