Breaking News About Nigeria: 40 Top Army Generals Retired
posted August 1, 2007 - 5:33amThe new president of the Federal Republic of Nigeria Alhaji Umaru Yar'Adua has approved the immediate retirement of 40 top ranking generals of the Nigerian Army.
According to Army spokesperson Colonel Yusuf says"...there is nothing abnormal about the retirement"
The president equally said that there is no room
for fear and suspicion as the former army chieftains were conscripted into the Nigerian armed forces same day and therefore, nothing is abnormal if they retire same day having statutorily been with the Army for 35 years stipulated by the constitution.
Teaming Nigerian people who had earlier suspected a hint of coup have been enjoined to entertain no such fear as the excercise is normal and in line with the precedent set by the former president Olusegun Obasanjo in his early days as the president of the Africa's most populous nation.
