Bye, Bye, Boomer American Pie -- Are there any crumbs left? (an opinion)

Bye, Bye, Boomer American Pie -- Are there any crumbs left? (an opinion)

I am not a fan of the Baby Boomer generation, and I've written a couple of times about my unhappiness, and have scolded them for repeating history, rather than following through on the promise to “change the world, and, not, repeat history.”

And every time I've brought up my disdain, the Boomers, jump on their pulpit and start banging their own drum about how I was selling them short.

I don't know how many times I've heard that statement from Boomers, themselves, but, never from any member of any of the other generations, which follow them. I cringe every time a Boomer jumps on the pulpit and starts pounding that drum. Yuk! And, with all due respect, I don't have to sell them short.

There was no shortage involved, in, fact, the Boomer Generation, harvested all that was due them, and then went on to waste the hope and assets of generations x, y, z, and, God, only knows how many more.

They have left quite the legacy. I'm sure they'll be remembered long, long, after their gone, as the Northwest passage becomes reality, the ice sheets melt, the planet continues to heat up, and the energy problem worsens, and, of, course, for the deaths in the War on Terror of over 3000 of our people - the members of the generations, which follow (and a few their own too), just, to name a few of the fine gifts their leaving for the generations, which follow them.

In fact the Boomer's greed-powered repeat-of-history didn't sell them short, at, all. They just sold the future short.
The only good thing about Boomers and their flag waving look-at-me lifestyle, is, according to the U.S, Census Bureau, the last Boomer is estimated to kick-the-bucket in the year 2070. Let's hope there will be something left for everyone else.

Bye, Bye, Boomer American Pie, the rest of us get the pie tin, or just the crumbs. Thank you for your generous contributions! And, most, of all, thank you for repeating history, and not fulfilling the promises you made when you were fresh and young...

Thank you to All for your input and

I never intended for this piece to be a rampage of knocking on every door of every baby boomer. The point of this writing was to point a finger at the generation who was going to change the world -- which included creating a world with cleaner newer fuels -- protecting the planet more, and creating harmony -- but, the long run has proved the boomers chose to repeat history, rather than change it. And, the "movement for change" scattered, and never reformed after the Viet-Nam war ended. The "organization," which was the boomers, that turned the national opinion against the Viet Nam War, was an organization, which could have done much more had it remained organized, they could have built a better world. The boomers, with their large population, certainly had a strong hand in putting those in office in this country who laughed at President Jimmy Carter when, thirty years ago he expressed concerns and voiced his concerns about our nation's need to change it fuel sources, put us into a war no one needed, and have had a pretty big hand in wasting our economy, and sending America's jobs to other countries, just to name a few of the things they had a hand in, in creating a world that works for nobody. Yea, yea, yea, I've heard the 1951 issue, and, yea, I am a member of this wonderful generation. We are not in a position to choose who we get stuck with in regards to family, relatives, or generations. But, I can choose if I like them or not. And, I don't care if the boomers like it or not, the fact is the time has come to "pass the torch from one generation to another." The boomers need to get planning for their retirement, and do it as soon as possible.

Gen - X +1

I am sure every generation of folks that end up in the power seats are who we can point the finger at. I am dissatisfied with many of the problems faced by future generations. I can not blame any one entire generation of people for the troubles caused by their leadership. I am sure there are millions of 'boomers' that have never done anything but live their lives. Quietly raising families and working at what ever jobs that they could get. Nice writing all the same. +1 FreeCracker4Jack Would you like to earn money writing similar articles? CLICK ME! Lazy, delinquent Egyptian kids!

Yeah, I remember hearing about this... it's pretty typical for every generation of parents/adults to feel the younger ones are lazy, daydreaming, ne'er do wells. This article went the other direction, criticizing a previous, *older* generation, and what struck me as odd was that the writer seemed to be saying that the generation he didn't like was the one he happened to belong too.

Every generation

Years ago I took some criminology classes in university. One of our classes was on juvenile delinquency. On the inside page of the textbook were three descriptions, all describing the youth of to-day as lazy, stupid and going to hell in a handbasket. The first one came from an Egyptian tomb over 3000 years ago, the second from a Greek text dated around 300 BC and the third from the USA around 1920. So nothing really changes. Each generation believes the younger one is not up to speed.

"They"?

Hmmm, I don't see how you can say you dislike "them," since if you were born in 1951 you *are* one of them! Maybe there are some behaviors of Boomers you don't like, or even specific Boomers you don't like, but to say that you dislike an entire range of people born between 1946 and 1964? That's an awful lot of people, and I would suggest that people born in the early part of that span are very different--and an entire generation removed from--the people born at the tail end of the generation. Basically, I think bashing any "generation" is pretty useless, whether it's complaining about Boomers or saying that Gen X or Y is lazy, etc. This whole idea of "generations" is a false construct anyway. As for me, there are people I like and dislike in all different generations and ages. I wouldn't say that I "dislike" any person or group of people based simply on what year they were born in, any more than I would dislike them based on what horoscope sign they were born under. Maybe I'm missing something, but wasn't it the Boomers who first rebelled against the corporate "greed game" you say you don't like? The 1950s was very conformist and stifling (so I'm told by many people who lived through them)... were the Boomers wrong in challenging gender stereotypes, the unquestioned power of corporations, a government that led the country into Vietnam, and demanding equal rights for blacks and women?

I dislike them, and

I arrived in 1951. So, look at me, and you can see who I got stuck with. And, I guess not playing the corporate American-greed-game is why I can't identify with them. Hey, I waited 49 years to get to the 21st Century, and I counted on getting here, and I am still excited about getting to the 21st Century, but, look at the mess they've made, and they've never even attempted to clean any of it up. Talk about self centered people. Oh, let someone else do it! _________________ Hey, Kjhack, thanks for all your great comments and words you've given me over the Xomba-system this week. Good post

I guess the dream died somewhere along the way, and they just got caught up in the mundane life of "materialism". You've got to change yourself before you can change the world, I guess. I never really identified with the "boomer" generation, although I was born at the tail end(62)of the era. Join Xomba!
