CA. Republican Supreme Court Justice - Unlikely Hero of Gay Rights Activists

California Chief Justice Ronald George, a life-long Republican decided it was time for California to take a stand on the Gay Marriage Rights issue.

Much of his decision in favor was based on an equally historic California Supreme Court ruling, in 1948, outlawing a ban on interracial marriage.

That case is titled: Perez v. Sharp.

He was first elected to the California high court in 1996.
