California follows 3 R's to lead charge on curtailing waste

"Reduce, reuse, recycle" is a way of life so enthusiastically embraced by eco-friendly Californians that a record 54 percent of the old newspapers, empty bottles, obsolete PCs and other junk we threw away last year was turned into something else.

State officials said that unprecedented feat places the Golden State at the forefront of what they call waste diversion and what everyone else calls recycling.
