posted November 8, 2008 - 10:42pmThe Politics of Same-Sex Marriage - On November 4th 2008 Californians voted YES on the state ballot measure Proposition 8 which called for the ban on same sex marriage. The act will add a new amendment to the California Constitution stating "only marriage between a man and a woman is
valid or recognized in California."
Opponents of Proposition 8 and advocates of same sex marriage have filed a petition with the California State Supreme Court to invalidate the measure because prior to the vote, same sex marriage was protected under the constitution in California.
