Can a Man Randomly Turn into a Woman?

The man in the above article says that he is turning into a woman and is begging medical experts to help. The problem is, they've never seen this happen before so they don't know what to do.
Apparently, 10 years ago or so, he started losing his facial hair, growing breasts, and his skin began becoming smoother. The doctors know that he's having a surge of estrogen, but they don't know why.
While I don't know this man, or his case, I have to wonder why they don't just try testosterone therapy? I know they want to know what the issue is, and they're reluctant (especially since it's something new for them to study), but the guy just wants to be a man, the way he has been up to this point.
An Ex of mine has double x chromosome syndrome, which is something he found out a couple years ago. It means that he has two x's and one y in his DNA. As a result, he doesn't produce sperm, has smoother features then most men, and is more prone to gaining weight in the areas that women are more prone to.
For my ex, testosterone therapy could work to make him more masculine, and he was born intersexed. So, I have to wonder why they don't just do that with this guy.
And, maybe the guy actually has something like double x chromosome syndrome. Maybe it just doesn't manifest physically until later in life for a small number of cases.
