Can I Just Please Say Jesus at Christmas?

My little sister is now on "winter break" from school. Not "Christmas break" mind you but "winter break." Oh, and she was sent home with "happy holidays" wishes from her school. Happy Holidays on Your Winter Break!

So if I mention Jesus during this "holiday" season I might offend somebody? I like calling this time of year Christmas, and I like remembering that we are celebrating the birth of Jesus - a pretty important historical figure AND a promising figure for my future as well. I’m not offended when Jewish people celebrate Hanukkah or others celebrate Kwaanza, so why are so many people offended when people celebrate Christmas AND go so far as to call it Christmas?

I'm not trying to start a big spiritual debate in this post, I just want to say that I choose to recognize Jesus as the reason to celebrate Christmas. Sorry if I offend any Xomba readers but...

When was the last time a Jewish person knocked on your door begging you to go to church with him/her? When was the last time a Jewish person told you you were going to hell because of your religion? When was the last time you were told you are the devil because of your personal beliefs? Jewish people get so tired of missionary's pushing their religion on them. Jesus Christ was not a historical person. Do not misunderstand that statement. Jesus might very well be important to you or your religion but that does not make him a historical person.

I just think it's silly that they can't say Merry Christmas at school. Happy holidays or have a great holiday are the norm.

I don't know anyone who takes offense to the word Christmas. I know people who go too far with their religious beliefs and have a holier than though attitude, and I know people who are offended by religion. I think everyone needs to calm down about it and be tolerant. You shouldn't feel bad about being open about your beliefs.
