I just got back from a nice vacation to Arizona; the first one I have taken in nearly 30 years. I noticed a number of things while there, one of which was their cleanliness. I saw that in my entire travels within that state I didn’t see enough roadside litter to fill up a plastic shopping bag…and they don’t even have a “bottle bill” law to serve as an incentive to keep the roadways clean. Most admirable!
One thing which I will never make sense of is that in a state where over 90% of the time the weather is rain free and sunny, every shopping mall and strip mall has a tanning salon (with an adjoining tattoo parlor it appears). Can someone please explain to me why they would pay hard earned money for something nature provides them for free? I am at a total loss to understand, let alone explain, this one.
