Can Things only be Good the First Time Around?
posted December 29, 2007 - 12:36amAfter a conversation with a special friend of mine, it dawned on me that something could only happen once in order for it to be meaningful. Think about it. When a man writes a woman a beautiful poem she will only adore it if it is the first time that this has happened to her. The second time around it seems like a cheap imitation. No one could ever mean to me what someone else already did. Do the firsts set the bar for everything else? Once we’ve had a real Fendi handbag, we can’t go back to the fake one. Once you’ve worn Channel n°5 you don’t want to smell like the fake copy no matter how similar it is. Does this mean that we are too narrow minded to acknowledge other’s efforts? Maybe we should loosen up and give seconds a chance. Perhaps we should not concentrate on what we had but open the doors for what is available to us because when you think about it…why settle for Jello once you’ve had Crème Brulée?
