Can You Please Not Set My Apartment On Fire??

Kids will be kids and irresponsible adults will be the burning down of my apartment.

Last night marked the beginning of a new year. People were drinking, partying and living the good life. I, however, was asleep by 11:30 (as a single mother should be). As the clock struck midnight, I was startled by the sound of fireworks in my apartment complex. No, they were not from the next city over, not even the next street for that matter. These hooligan adults were setting off fireworks in the middle of the parking lot.

They did not bother me at first. The colors were nice as I watched the fireworks explode right outside my window. Then the fireworks started to explode ON my window!! It seems the wind was blowing and it send the little fireballs straight towards my apartment.

I saw the red as it bubbled up underneath the ledge. It seemed as though a small fire was erupting 3 feet from my bed. I walked over to the window just in time to see a man, drunk beyond words attempting to dance, jump and extinguish the flames. He looked at me and nodded. I opened to window to hear hoardes of laughter and cheers. He apologized profusely and walked away, taking another swig from his beer.

It would not have been so bad if he would have stopped his antics, but he did not. Taking his lighter he ignited another handful of firworks. This time they hit cars and the windows of others. Just as I was about to call the property manager, another resident came out throwing out every word he could and decided to charge the man. He and his posse ran. It was the end to the show. Thank goodness.

I always want to ring the new year in with fire in my belly....but not with fire under my window.

Happy 2007 everyone!!

Isn't it amazing that..

that so many children grow up to be big, drunk, stupid, irresponsible children? And they wonder where the kids get it from......the really bad example set by their parents maybe? Here in San Antonio, there is a ban on fireworks inside the city limits. Of course, this doesn't necessarily stop people from bending that law but it helps. It also helps to live across the street from the police and fire departments. Sorry you had a scare. Happy New Year to ya! Michele http://www.xomba.com/user/micheleg4153
