The Globe and Mail's 2009 Online Broker Survey compares and ranks the top 12 firms that offer online brokerage services in Canada. The online brokers are judged based on the following categories or criteria, for stocks, bonds, and funds:

  • Costs (stock-trading commissions)
  • Trading (how quickly and cleanly)< li>
  • Customer Satisfaction
  • Investment Tools
  • Account Information
  • Website (security and user friendliness)

The list includes: QTrade Investor, Credential Direct, BMO InvestorLine, Scotia iTrade, RBC Direct Investing, TD Waterhouse, Disnat (Classic), National Bank Direct Brokerage, CIBC's Investors Edge, Questrade, ScotiaMcLeod Direct Investing, and HSBC InvestDirect.
