Career Changes: Know the Job That Fits You Best

Most often we are required to make a career change to either further our skills or to just specifically to find a new job. Some people go with there is more pay, some go because of location, and some are just burned out in their current career. Whatever your reason, here are ways to figure out the best career for you.

1. What do you really like to do? You might be happy pursuing your hobby as a full-time career.

2. Which activities do you find most fulfilling? Do they involve working alone or with others? Solving new problems or making systems work? Negotiating or giving orders? The answers may help you find the career that you are best suited for.

3. Before leaving your company, ask the personnel department about jobs in other departments or divisions you are qualified for.

4. If you want to investigate other fields, try to continue the work you have been doing part-time, freelance, or consultant basis.

5. Many colleges have programs geared toward older students, including those who work full-time, like me. Some even offer credit for life experience.

6. If you are thinking about a new profession but you’re not sure it’s right for you, do volunteer work in the field to find out more about it. Doing research at your local library or searching the internet for information on the job you are pursuing also helps.

Remember making career changes can occur at anytime during your working life. Age should not be a determinant when making a career change. If there is a lot of stress in your current career you should consider a career change.
