"Carol Burnett: A Woman of Character," which airs at 9 tonight on PBS as part of the "American Masters" series, shows Carol Burnett surviving the difficult loss, of her daughter Carrie Hamilton and also illustrates the close bond between mother and daughter.

Carrie Hamilton, is one of Burnett's three daughters from her former marriage to the late Joe Hamilton, executive producer of "The Carol Burnett Show."

Carrie was a teenage drug addict, but fortunately, as Burnett noted, she became sober when she was still young. At the time, Burnett became one of the first stars to talk openly about drug addiction.
Long after she became sober, Carrie died from lung and brain cancer at age 38 on Jan. 20, 2002.
She was described as one of the most beautiful and talented actresses on stage and screen.
