CD Music Sales are Down Sharply, Figures Show

A rough few years for the music industry are getting worse: sales of music on compact disc for the first three months of 2007 plunged 20% from a year earlier.

Although digital music sales are rising, CDs still account for over 85% of music sold, so this slide is significant.

This article notes that about 800 music stores, including Tower Records' 89 locations, closed in 2006 alone.
