Chengdu, China Earthquake Measures 7.8; at Least 5,000 Dead

At least 5,000 people are feared dead in a powerful earthquake that hit Chengdu, China in the Sichuan province. In Beichuan county in the province, at least 10,000 people were thought to be dead or injured, and 80 per cent of the state's buildings had been destroyed.

The county is about 100 miles from Chengdu, the provincial capital.
