Chicago's Gallows--the wooden structure built to hand criminals a century ago was purchased today by Ripley's Believe it or not.

The buying price was $68,000. The previous owner decided that the gallows were too dismal a thing to keep in his park and he wanted to get rid of it.< p>

Luckily for him, Ripley's stepped up and purchased the decaying wooden structure.

I just don't know why anyone would want to own this contraption. Is it for posterity's sake or for some gory fascination with death? Who knows?

This is just an interesting side note I thought I would bring to your attention.
