Many years ago, families stayed together. Kids, parents, and grandparents lived together or in close proximity. Today, the problems of social isolation and depression are more common in the elderly as families move further away to start lives and careers of their own. This article examines what we lose when this separation from our elderly loved ones occurs and makes suggestions on how to maintain better connections.
