Children Taught to Spy on Their Neighbours

Children Taught to Spy on Their Neighbours

Councils in Britain are training an army of children to spy on their neighbours. As the UK shuffles into its Orwellian dystopia these 'citizen snoopers' are being taught how to take photos, note down car number plates and all relevant information that can be used in a prosecution - and on how to do it in secret. The Neighbourhood Watch schemes have been around for decades and were designed to stop criminals, especially thieves. But when families can be fined £100 for having their bin slightly too full this is no longer about crime but rather a fundamental shift in the powers of local councils. People already pay for things like waste collection and policing in their taxes but councils now see their populations as a source of revenue rather than as recipients of public services.

The councils indoctrinate these children into believing they are 'environment volunteers'- note that the kiddie-police are not paid a penny. How long will it be before they are victimized at school? Have the councils considered this backlash? The destruction of communities and civic behaviour is a tried and trusted method of totalitarian communism and a hallmark of Airstrip One.

Matthew Elliott, chief executive of the TaxPayers' Alliance, said: 'Community spirit is one thing, spying on your neighbours is quite another.

Not the right phrase

"Quality of life issue" is not exactly right. I believe the quality of life is better when people aren't in your business needlessly. I agree it might be time to leave. If you had to where would you go?

BaronKarza, as you say, it

BaronKarza, as you say, it becomes a quality of life issue. Which qualities do you seek? Nowhere's perfect but there are still countries that haven't yet turned into 24/7 surveillance camps. They are not always as "efficient" as a first world nation, but that also means they're not very good at controlling everything that breathes :-) Join Xomba Here

Where can you go?

Frightening post. You said in an earlier comment "time to leave", but where can you go? Obviously a country with less omnipresent technology, but then it becomes a quality of life issue.

It's really nothing new....

since kids have always been told to "tell". In the 80's it began with school counselors if memory serves. Kids would talk to the counselor who could report it to the police. No confidentiality there y'know. As soon as 911 service was established kids were told to call 911 to report parents and siblings. Some of the calls were cranks and others were just informative. But, a lot of adults were placed under observation by social services on the word of a child.

raising the kids to snitch. it's frightening. and public education is the guise all of this is happening under.

snooping curtain twitchers

This story was reported in both the Mail and Telegraph. http://linkbee.com/trendwagon5 For those not in the UK, Neighbourhood Watch is fairly self-explanatory: people looking out for suspicious activity, especially regarding potential burglaries. It wasn't designed to check if your neighbour has their bin open one inch. It's still snooping but theoretically not to snoop on each other. Join Xomba Here

Scary....

George Orwell was right! :) I agree that this is abusing these children.

Karl Marx called for children to spy!

Slightly ridiculous conclusion there until you read some of the comments. Could you supply better references for this story? Neighbourhood Watch is not a radical left-wing movement - unless you're having a laugh. Actually children in the UK are treated miserably. Less rights than dogs. Social Services have been famously useless on their behalf. Today the mother, her boyfriend and lodger found guilty of torturing and murdering a 2 year old did not get maximum sentences. Also Church of England were found to have tampered with evidence concerning the wholesale drugging of children in their care homes - resulting in children born to ex residents with disabilities. Over the water in Eire their priests were often sadistic paedophiles but that didn't stop them celebrating the crowing (or whatever they call it) of the new Catholic bishop of Westminster yesterday. (Social Services, Law and Religion have a different agenda for children then - that described in the article is far preferable) The point is - there's more crap happening without imagining or inventing more based on one article. RE: Perhaps we should just call

I agree this new form of spying and totalitarianism does stink! You can see the degradation of virtue here in America as well. Since I was a kid the television shows aimed at kids taught that it is acceptable to question adults. So I can see spying as the next step in that progression. It's sad that individualistic countries like America are falling prey to totalitarianism style brainwashing.
