CHINA'S 60 Years: Yahoo!
posted October 2, 2009 - 12:03pmThe title of a recently released Yahoo! article is "Communist China marks 60th anniversary with tanks (obviously to show military might; what a surprise) (and) kitsch (i.e. a plan that isn't very well thought out which isn't surprising either; all we have to do is look at China's obsession/craze with ECONOMIC GROWTH; it's all about pace (8%) while quality is COMPLETELY NEGLECTED). We are reminded that China is a Communist society and in such societies, governments NEVER make mistakes. This is a sham. ALL HUMAN BEINGS MAKE MISTAKES AND GOVERNMENT OFFICIALS ARE HUMAN. This is precisely why Chinese government authorities cannot be trusted.
The first sentence is "Jets, tanks and missile-toting trucks THUNDERED THROUGH BEIJING on Thursday IN A SHOW OF MILITARY MUSCLE ("military muscle" = brute force; this is what it's all about) to celebrate (?) six decades of communist rule and China's transformation from a war-battered regional player (even when China was "battered", it was still a "player" or manipulator; what does this tell us?) into global economic superpower". No matter how much of a superpower China has become, all of that means nothing if they cannot be trusted.
Chinese President Hu Jintao wore a Mao jacket instead of his usual business suit. Isn't Hu supposed to be moderate and more conciliatory than his predecessor, Jiang Zemin? This means that he shouldn't be a Maoist, but this suggests that he may be one after all.
The next question is: what does all this mean? According to Steve Tsang (thank goodness he's not related to the China freak Donald Tsang), a Chinese politics expert at Oxford University, "The message that is intended is: 'We are modern, we are Chinese, we are great, we are fantastic and WE ALL DO IT BECAUSE OF THE GREAT LEADERSHIP OF THE COMMUNIST PARTY". This is a farce. China is far from a purely Communist society these days (just look at how many Chinese people own their own homes and drive cars. If China is TRULY still Communist, everything would still be owned by the state, which isn't the case). This proves that Steve Tsang is an independent-minded ACADEMIC.
In a short speech standing atop Tiananmen Square, Hu proclaimed: "On this joyful and solemn occasion, all the peoples (?) across the nation feel extremely proud for the progress and development of the motherland and have full confidence in the bright prospects for the great rejuvenation of the Chinese nation". There is clear and compelling evidence that this was "carefully choreographed".
On the street, opinions were sharply divided as well. According to retiree Wang Shumin, "China's power makes us proud. Over the span of 60 years, China has developed so rapidly. China is now powerful and has a position on the world stage".
On the other hand, in Hong Kong, which is supposedly an international city or even "Asia's world city", 200 people marched through the Central business district chanting various anti-China slogans such as "...we want human rights. WE DON'T WANT A SANITIZED NATIONAL DAY", but this is exactly what the Chinese authorities want and unfortunately, THE GOVERNMENT OPINION IS THE ONLY ONE THAT COUNTS/MATTERS.
Finally, according to Minxin Pei, a professor of government at Claremont McKenna College in California, since 1989, China has been a "one-party state that USES ITS ECONOMIC SUCCESS TO BOLSTER ITS LEGITIMACY IN ANY WAY CONCEIVABLE, including a Soviet-style military parade". And Hu Jintao is now the Chinese president? This is something else that we could not have envisioned back in 2005 when he came to power. Professor Pei's assessment is spot-on.
China is guilty of, among other things (since 1949):
- Pumping up the stock market/manipulating numbers
- Brutal crackdowns in Tibet (2008) and Xinjiang (2009)
- Melamine scandal (2008)
- Donald Tsang & Stanley Ho saying "s**t" and using other foul language in Legco/parliament, while ACCUSING OTHERS OF DOING THE SAME THING AFTER THEM. If Tsang and Ho can use that kind of language, it should be legitimized FOR EVERYBODY ELSE. If they can say it when they are pissed (let's use street language now), why can't other people say it? This world does not revolve around Donald Tsang, Stephen Lam (Donald Tsang's and China's puppet), Edmund Ho, Stanley Ho and CHINA.
In other words, China still has many problems.
