Chupacabra Mystery Solved!

There has been a lot of interest of late about the Chupacabra. For those who have never heard of this legendary beast, it is said it attacks in the night and drains an animal of it’s blood! Creepy stuff. I mean you don’t dedicate a whole X-Files episode (see episode titled “El Mundo Gira”) to it if it’s not haunting narrative. Well maybe you do. In the X-Files they put the beast on two legs, paint it white, have it snarl and drool…that’s Hollywood.

In reality, the stories aren’t very frightening when you take a closer look. Chupacabra means “goat sucker” and most reports are just that. Goats or some other small animal in Mexico, Puerto Rico, or  South America are reported killed. Puncture wounds are found on the throat and, viola, instant creepy story.

Eyewitnesses say they a have grey to reddish leathery skin, a long snout and walk on four legs. Oh wait – here is a picture of one:

Am I amazing or what?

Quiz time…how many humans have been rumored to have been attacked by the Chupacabra? My hardly diligent research turned up all of none. Not too surprising considering its size and penchant for goats.

You might find this odd but I feel that the stories I have read in the tabloids or heard on the radio, lend the critter some credibility. Mostly because they are so…lame. I’m sorry, but if people were lying, they’d be saying this thing stole children and sneaked through windows in the dark of night to eat the hearts of virgins! But no, it bites the throats of goats.

The question I’ll answer for you is – are Chupacabra real? YES! See picture above. They are real coyotes, covered in mites, with a bad case of hair loss. (This is also known as mange.) So my advice to you, if you are ever confronted by a Chupacabra, don’t try to pet one. They are icky and probably smell bad.

My advice is free, you don’t have to thank me.

Note: the picture was gleaned from the Wikipedia article on mange.
