Jesus washed us from our sins with  his own blood. How can that be? Doesn't blood stain theings? Contaminate them? Ruin them? Only if it's outside the body. In our own body, our blood cleanses every cell by taking toxins and depositing them in the kidneys. In Christ's body, the church, his blood cleanses every member by taking sin and dumping it.
