Cocktails Unraveled - Do It Yourself

We keep hearing of these exotic names of different cocktails and at times have them without knowing what they contain. There is this joke where people are discussing what they mix their favorite drink with and the Indian says Nothing. Nothing, everyone exclaims, not even water. The Indian explains, Actually just the thought of a drink makes my mouth water so much that i don't need anything else.

Most cocktails have Liqueurs and some other funny stuff which a rgular person does not stock at home. Here is a lowdown on some of the well known exotic cocktails (without the fancy stuff) and how to make them yourself:

(Note : 1 oz = 30 ml = A small Peg)

Liquid Candy

Mix 1 oz Vodka with 1 1/2 oz of watermelon schnapps and shake with ice in a shaker of course and pour in a chilled glass.

Butterscotch Martini

Mix 1 1/2 oz vodka with 1/2 oz each Buteerscotch schnapps and Butterscotch Cream Liqueur and stir gently. Add ice.

Bloody Mary

Add up 1 1/2 oz Vodka with 3 oz tomato juice, a little lemon juice, 2-3 drops of tobasco sauce and shake well with ice. Add salt and pepper to taste. If you have worcestershire sauce add 1/2 tsp else just forget about it. You won't know the difference.

Screw Driver

Pour Orange Juice into a glass and add 1 1/2 oz of Vodka into it. Stir and serve with ice.

Mojito

Put about 3-4 mint leaves in glass and pour in favoured quantity of Rum (white will be good). Lightly crush the mint leaves with a spoon and then add 1 tsp lime juice with sugar to taste. Mix water/soda and stir lightly with ice.

Vodka Gimlet

Mix 1 part Vodka with 1/2 part lime juice and shake well with ice. Let it sit while you take one quarter of a lemon and run it around the glass rim squeezing as you proceed. After the complete rim is done squeeze the rest into the glass. Pour the Vodka lime juice mix into the glass and enjoy.
