Coconut Oil and Weight loss
posted October 30, 2006 - 3:48pmLast March my medical doctor moved to Australia and I did not like any of the replacements. We were paying out $146 a month for medical insurance and they would not pay for dental, eyeglasses, physical therapy and they raised my co-pay and took away more services. My thyroid med I was taking was getting more expensive monthly it seemed every month it cost another dollar more.
I felt tired all the time, and had gained even more weight though I do not over eat and try and eat healthy. My thyroid levels seemed to stay the same. Finally someone said have you tried RAW Thyroid from the health food store. I got some 60 capsules for $13.90. Wow a lot less than my Synthroid which was now $22 per month for 30 tablets. I stopped taking the syntroid as could not afford it and here I am eight months later feeling a whole lot healthier and with more energy.
But I still was troubled about weight due to my having gained weight up to 298 lbs. Nothing I did took it off. I exercise daily using the guthy-ranker ball exercise, garden and walk. But the weight would not come off. I did not gain more but not losing either.
I gave up my medical insurance in September and found a Naturopath. I also had trouble sleeping. He told me my sleep insomnia, pituatary, thyroid and adrenals were all inter-related and for the past 20 years medical doctors were treating NOT my thyroid but my pituitary with just enough to keep me from heart failure but not to keep me from gaining weight or feeling fatiqued, But enough to keep me borderline.
He put me on a high protien no carbs diet, with natural herbs and supplements and told me to cook with and eat as well 2 tablespoons of coconut oil daily. To take omega-3 capsules and drink green tea and other herbal tess with lots of fruits, vegetables and salads. Which include olives and avacados.
Here I am 8 weeks later and have lost 12 lbs. I am sleeping better and feeling better. He said coconut oil is the main key. Along with my continued exercise I was already doing. I cook with it and eat it daily. My husband too who wanted to lose 35 lbs has lost 15 lbs so far
Some may not agree but I for one am a lot healthier and happier than I have been in a long time. I have dropped one whole dress size. I drink lots of water and other liquids. No soda pop, not much sugar allowed but some honey and twice a week I can have two squares of dark chocolate and for special occassions go off my diet for the day as long as I go back on.
My doctor a naturopath is so sure I will lose and keep the weight off with this diet and be rested and healthier he is charging me only $40 for my supplemental herbs he wants me to use along with the diet and he is paying $60 out of his own pocket for the next 6 months. He guarentees if I stick with this I will lose all the weight and be healther. So far he is right.
