Cocoto Fishing Master Review | WiiWare

Released on 6/16/08 for the Nintendo Wii, Cocoto Fishing Master is the first WiiWare game to be released by publisher Neko Entertainment.

Cocoto Fishing Master casts you as a demon named Cocoto whose job is to catch the five millenial fish that will stop a magic cauldron from overflowing with lava and destroying the world. Pretty out there premise for a fishing game, huh?

Well what matter most here is not the story but the gameplay and that is where Cocoto Fishing Master really shines. The game use the Wii Remote and Nunchuck to mimic really life fishing. You cast out with the Wii Remote and real the fish in by cranking the Nunchuck. With a learning curve of only about 15 or 20 minutes, you will be landing fish in no time.

The only tricky part of the controls is setting the hook when a fish is biting. To do this you have to lift upwards with the Wii remote and keep it held up until the remote starts vibrating. Getting the timing down on this can be tricky at first but it never reaches the point of frustration.

The game has a cell shaded style of graphics, most famously seen in Legend of Zelda: The Wind Waker, that fit the characters and plot well.

I wish that the game had a slightly larger selection of fish to catch but for only 700 Wii Points (or $7) I am not going to complain too much about that. All things considered, for the low price and large potential for replayability, I would recommend purchasing Cocoto Fishing Master to anyone even slightly interested in a fishing game for the Nintendo Wii.

Rating - 7/10
