Coincidence and Deja Vu: Tell Your Stories and Your Theories

Is there actually a meaning to coincidence? What is really going on when we have that déjà vu feeling? These topics are debated throughout the scientific community, especially by psychologists. Coincidence could just be a product of our minds assuming a relationship between two unlinked events. Déjà vu could just be our imagination running away with us.

I believe my brain has connected various incidents to form the phenomena known as coincidence and déjà vu. Some of these instances are just quirks of chance, truly my mind relating two unconnected experiences. Sometimes the randomness of the world seems to demonstrate an intelligent purposefulness. My personal verdict is that coincidence and déjà vu can be factual and not imaginary in some instances. I also hold the conviction that more of these episodes will occur to persons with more of a psychic bent. This is a pet topic of discussion for George Nori, the weekday host of Coast to Coast AM, a late-night radio program.

You have probably experienced incidents that fall under these classifications. Have you ever been thinking or speaking of someone, and then that person calls on the phone? Have you ever met someone you are sure you have met before? Did your dream forecast a true event or give you knowledge that helped you cope with a problem that came up later? Do you often look at the clock with the same numbers showing each time? Whether these affairs have a meaning is up to you. I am going to tell you about the most recent coincidence in my life and some general recurring events. Please comment with your related experiences and discuss your theories.

Somehow, the coincidences and déjà vu events which have found me seem to slip my memory within a week to a month. I know there have been many, but I just can’t remember the details. I usually know when my mother is about to telephone. I always know when a dream I’ve had is important for the future. When I check the time, there are more often than not three like digits showing. I could have sworn I’d heard that news report before, even though it is breaking news. These are general reports, but I can remember details of the most recent coincidence to take place in my life, though it is not very impressive.

My husband was babysitting dinner as it cooked, as I relaxed on the couch after doing the dishes and starting the food cooking. This particular night, I found a Discovery Channel exposé on parachuting to be entertaining, though that is not one of my normal topics of interests. The definition of HALO – high altitude low opening, a type of parachute – stuck in my head. Within the week, the definition was the answer to a Jeopardy clue. Was it just another random connection of events? If it had more meaning, I would easily classify this as a coincidence, but I am simply not sure.

Please record your own experiences of coincidence and déjà vu in the comment section with your theories on the subject. A +1 on a bite or blurb is always appreciated. I have numerous bites and blurbs available on websites, news articles, recipes, poetry, essays, and original compositions; feel free to take a look!

Deja Vu, Pre-Cognizance ("Coincidence"?) ... Mind-Tricks

Here, I'm not meaning 'tricks ~other people~ play on your mind,' I mean more like 'tricks your own mind does!'

The human mind is an amazing thing; I'm sure you've heard that we only use 3% of our minds at any one time (while awake, anyway), and I believe it ... oh, I don't think any part of the mind sits there useless your entire life; but use much more than 3%-at-one-time before your head's mature enough, and we'll have to hook you up with jumper-cables!

Dèjá vu and Pre-cognizance are two sides of the 'coin' of brain's predicting logic---within the 97% you're not 'using' presently, the mind is running a program like the one that 'chaos theory'-computer (that I rehd about in GOOD Magazine) runs to predict EVERYTHING.

But you "knew" I would say that!
