Coming Out of the Closet

Coming Out of the Closet

Ok...here goes everybody. There's been rumors, stories. It's time I made it official. I'm only gonna say this once, so pay attention. It's been weeks..no months of torture..trying to hide it - trying to pretend that it's not me. But it is. I hope nobody will be disappointed in me or think of me differently because I really am the same person. I really am. So if you can't deal with what I'm about to say, just tell me. I'm sure now I'm gonna find out who my real friends are. Ok..here it goes...

I like Green Day.

Wow. That feels better. Whew...what a load off. I've really tried not to like them, but I can't help it. Their songs are catchy. I respect what they have to say - and their catchy way of saying it. Sure, I know they used to have songs about masturbation ("Longview") and things like that. They were fun back then. But now they're grown up and have opinions. And, even though I totally disagree with their opinions, they present them with such catchy tunes that I can't help myself. I mean, there's "Wake me up when September ends" and "Boulevard of Broken Dreams" and "Good Riddance." They're really good. They're not punk, as they would like to have people believe, but they are great. So friends, please don't look down on me. I held off as long as I could. It feels better to have it out there...for everybody to know. I'll understand if there's weirdness between us now. Don't worry...it'll wear off. And if you're not like me, it's ok..not everybody is. That's what makes the world go 'round.

That's How 'Behavior' Works with Respect to Power

As much as 'the kinds of music you like' affect your public standing, so much should your lesser-thans change their personal listening. I personally believe humans to be more-highly evolved than "sheep"; but maybe I'm just being idealistic, and perhaps GreenDay acts as a real wake-up-call to some. Of course, a lot of others decide to de-evolve; to only listen to what they hear from parents/teachers/money, and turn a deaf ear to everything else. To them, an anarchal rant is just "a flutter of tweeting." A pity how they doom themselves to Hee-Haw Heaven. What do You Think? Join Xomba to Tell Us!

When I think of *coming out*, it would be more like...

When I first read the Xombyte title in light of music, I was thinking that *coming out* over bands or groups would be someone saying they had a man-crush on Usher or something like that. I don't see anything wrong with Green Day and I especially like their song *American Idiot*, given some of the support for a certain Idiot-in-Chief. My musical tastes are very eclectic and I have found that it is more important what I play on my stereo than worry about what others think of it.

A Little Secret? Everybody Loves GreenDay Like You Do

Most people just aren't smart enough to disagree with parts of something and like other parts. In truth, "Green Day" is just a conglomeration of the band-members' feelings. You're not going to 'like' all their feelings, just like you're not going to 'like' all your own feelings; but the band tries to clean them up and make them presentable. What do You Think? actually i recall an interview done several years ago (they were interviewed by jello biafra ex-lead singer of the dead kennedys!) where billie joe armstrong stated that he didn't feel green day could be considered a "punk band."
