Commenting
posted October 28, 2009 - 3:48pmI wonder, do you know why it is that people don't comment on the Xomba site? I don't mean to complain, and I am getting plenty of views. Of course I would gladly accept more, but I have no way of knowing who reads if they don't leave a comment. It doesn't really matter except that if I knew I could return the favor by commenting on some of their things as well. When I first began writing on the web, I wrote for a site that didn't pay at all, and all a person got was comments from other writers which is good. The other writers can leave suggestions on how to improve an article or just simply say that they like it or don't like it or whatever comes to their mind as long as they don't get nasty about it of course. I have always kept up the habit that I built early in my writing life.
I enjoy knowing what other people think and have changed my articles a few times to what was suggested, but sometimes I like the way I have it better and leave it as is. Whether I change it or not, I still would like to know what others think of them and would like to know who to return the read too. I am not good at getting out and meeting new people, but I enjoy meeting them. I just am not good at starting the conversations the first time. Maybe it's just that I have a lot more free time than others do because of being retired already. I am sure that helps some, plus I have always been a nightowl and would stay up late anyway. Now that I have begun writing, Nighttime is when I do the majority of my writing.

just a comment on commenting :)
I completely agree.....I wish I knew who read my articles as well so I could return the favor. But I've also noticed that on Xomba, it doesn't seem like there's a whole lot of $$$ to be made as you don't get paid per article view, just when they click on the ads.....
that's why I don't spend a lot of time on Xomba, I give more of my time to Ehow, Bukisa and Associated Content as they pay MUCH better!
I've actually made about $50 to date on just ONE article at ehow. And AC pays pretty well for upfront payments too, not just on how many article views, as for Bukisa, I've just started with them and am looking forward to seeing how it pans out compared to the others.
If you have anything to add or any advice on any of these sites, I would really appreciate it!
Thanks and happy writing!
Thanks Ernie.
Just sent a message to you. Crazy_ernie.

Many times the anonymousity of the internet provides shelter for those people who like to be very rude. I would rather have no comments than rude and viscious ones.
Also, are you making much/any money off of this site or any others?
Hi Mark,
Hi Mark,
You are right about that something can be and often is said that will make us see our write in a way that we never saw it before. Thanks so much for commenting, and I will be by shortly to check out your pages.

lack of comments
You are right. There does seem to be a lack of comments by people on this site as opposed to other sites. I read every comment posted on my articles. Sometimes you get a completely different viewpoint that you never thought of from the comment and that can be a good thing.
That must be it, but...
That must be it Nickol1000, but the reads that it woud get them in return and if they read some would probably click an ad to help make them a tad more money wouldn't it? I just can't see it as a bad thing no matter what light I put on it.
Thanks for commenting, and I will be by soon to check out your an article or two of yours.

Like the article.
I like the article and agree with what you're saying about commenting. I think that if more people make the extra effort and use up that little bit more time, it creates a more inviting atmosphere and may help Xomba to grow. Part of the problem is that most peopled don't feel that they have the time to spend commenting on others' articles. They think they'd be better off spending the time writing their own ones.
Thanks CAM
I guess lack of time has a lot to do with it for most readers, but I have noticed that not many of the readers that read my things bother to comment. I think around 40 people have read this, and well you saw what a few comments there was. It just seems rather strange when on most sites that I have belonged to that most readers also commented.
Thanks for commenting CAM.

Good points...
I guess for me it is the lack of time because I write for four sites and I run a business full time. I try to read my friends at all the sites but that is about 300 people! As a Community Guide and a Category Editor at AC, I read about 200 - 300 pieces of content a week as well! It leaves me with little time! I think you will find more people commenting after we have been here awhile, though!
