comparing ourselves to predatory animals
posted September 7, 2006 - 6:10pmPredatory animals hunt to survive. they are aggressive in nature and locate, stalk, and many times are successful at reaching their goal. Their goal is to attack, kill, and satisfy their hunger, while at times providing for others within their group. It is easy to distinguish the predators from the other animals. The predators eyes are located to the front of their face , unlike their prey whose eyes are located on either side of the face.
Because humans are predatory in nature, perhaps we are fascinated by the skill, beauty and grace of these animals. it is true they are beautiful to look at. Many are like finely tuned machines lean and sleek.
They are capable of reaching high speeds while running and and can down their prey with one precise blow. Their confidence and accuracy make for admirable qualities.
Although as humans most of us have evolved beyond our primitive instincts, we still can not deny that the basic need of survival is still within us.
Many times humans are just like these wild animal predators but not in such primitive ways. The corporate world is referred to as a "jungle". To "be out for blood" and "go for the kill" are common terms used in the business world on a regular basis. These mean locate the job or task at hand, pursue it, then attack it until it is yours.
So although we are no longer as blood thirsty as our ancestors millions of years ago, we have evolved to make our predatory instincts more or less a civilized game. We're fascinated by the role of a predators prowess because they are outwardly a valid display and justification of our inner survival instincts.
