Go to http://www.linksys.com and select "Network Basics" under the " Learning Center" menu option.

Admittedly, this well-prepared and free animated course is geared exclusively towards introducing Linksys brand equipment but it still gives a good idea about the A-B-C of home networking.

If you are an engineer or a high-tech geek, you can skip it because I'm sure you already know this stuff. Otherwise highly recommended.
